Windows 10 SAPI Text To Speech (TTS) Is Unavailable

In late 2022, Hear2Read team decided to focus on Hear2Read NVDA Addon for Windows PC users.

This decision was driven by many factors including the following:

  1. The last update to SAPI (5.3) was released by Microsoft in April 2012. Since then no bug fixes or product improvements have been made to SAPI.
  2. NVDA is the predominant (most likely the sole) open source (free to use without any Ads) Screen Reader used by VI population, especially in India.
  3. NVDA addon eliminates the Windows OS overhead which improves response to user actions.
